Deere 404 head bolt help needed June 12, 2015 03:30PM
Does anybody know the torque specs and torquing sequence for a 404 turbo head? Can't find anywhere

The torque sequence is basically like any other multi-cylinder head. Start in the middle and work towards the ends alternating back and forth from the middle. I got a print out from my local JD shop. The sequence is also in an IT service manual. As for torque, that depends on the type of head bolt. I was told the flange head bolt can be reused, the ones with seperate washers should not. I torqued the head on my 4430 to 150ft/lbs in three steps, that was with the flange head bolts.

Usually torque them to 300 ft lbs, then they hold all that Greeen power
