Another run away sled August 02, 2015 04:07AM
There was another malfunctioning sled yesterday at champaign/urbana illinois county fair. No word yet on damage or anyone hurt.

There were no injuries and most of the damage was to a portable light tower. Sled was back up and running after a short break.

maybe its time we talk about a remote kill idea for the sled or a computerized kill with sensors that watch the box and the pan.

Re: Another run away sled August 02, 2015 01:14PM
this should be an easy to fix this issue to add a kill switch that senses the weigh box not moving and either both kill the tractor/ truck and/ or deploy some sort or anchor to slow the sled. This is something that really is looked at since the amount of malfunctions here latly, especially at the indoor events, like Louisville like it did this past year. If somthing dosnt happen someone is going to get seriously injured driver or spectator.

Maybe its time to think about pulling something instead of drag racing its a joke when theres a 340 foot pull when a stock farm tractor could have crawled it out to 300 because theres no load till the pan drops

Re: Another run away sled August 02, 2015 01:36PM
Don't know for sure but alot of sled operators seem to go for a fast box that bounces off the end. Always thought a slower box with more weight would be better. Watch bg with all the vehicles in the class a rut will be in the track because of it.

Yes and they will have bars under the pan that rips up the track so bad if your pulling at the back of the pack your screwed pulling and a csino has a lot in commen

What sled was it?

Re: Another run away sled August 02, 2015 04:31PM
I was there. The box came up, the pan just didnt push down. Not sure what malfunction caused it but they used the sled to run semis problem free afterwards . Nobody was hurt and there was minimal damage to the tractor. In fact he was able to pull today. Yes sleds malfunction and yes sometimes there are operator errors. I don't know wich was the case in this instance, but to go out and say the sport needs this or that because of what happened last night is a little crazy to me because it's a case of where the worst happened and yet there was minimal damage because of the precautions already taken. Plenty of runoff room and an experienced driver made a potentially very ugly situation into a mere footnote of a good tractor pull

thank you for providing that important piece of information that the original poster conveniently left out. not exactly a runaway sled when its like that.

It was Luedtke Eliminator's White Sled and correct, the box topped out but the pan never dropped.
