8600 ford farm stock turbo and hp upgrades January 18, 2015 01:59PM
Was wanting to know what turbo and HP upgrades I needed to do for a 8600ford to run farm stock class like the BOB runs. 2600rpm 2.3 turbo. Its bone stock 401 was going to start out running in the 12500 8 mph and pull what you bring. We are in southern part of Tennessee mostly with our pulls. Would love to try to get all I
Can out of the stock head but probably have to go to Genesis head eventually. Thanks in advance

The stock head will really limit the potential of the engine. To run in the class and be even reasonably competitive, you are going to need a head, injection pump, injectors, lines and a decent turbo.

What pump and turbo would
D be good for starters I don't guess the pump I've got would be worth useing .What size injectors would I need ?

I had a 11mm pump, bigger lines and injectors and a 3lm turbo on a stock 401. Ran 8mph in 5th high until clutch started slipping. I still have everything but the turbo, looking to sell it.

Do you have any parts for sale yet?

Mine has 11mm pump, GT3076 turbo, 5x20 injectors (just what I had), bigger lines, genesis head, .030 over 401, and It runs 7th gear easily, 8th at times, I just don't have the extra time to really get it dialed in because other hobbies. In most farm stock classes now, if you can't run road gear, you aren't going to be in the top 10 (at least around here, and in a class with several people). I had to go to a dual disc clutch as soon as I started to run 7th gear, so plan on a clutch upgrade as well.

So if it's like around here and you want any chance of winning, you are going to need a 12mm Simms, and a pretty expensive turbo, you might be cheaper to go ahead and build for hot farm, run a P-pump (cheaper than a 12mm simms) and a hand me down turbo , from someone who went bigger. LOL
