Limited pro vs light pro February 29, 2016 05:38AM
How close are the 540 light pros and the 640 4.1 tractors? Not looking for any big secrets, just curious and interested.
Thanks

Very close if everyone is playing by the rules.

The only cost dif would be the cost of crank shaft.

It would have to be a top notch light pro to compete with a mid range 4.1. Would have to give weight allowance to light pro.

Take a look at Indiana Pulling League. We have a class that takes both lights and limiteds to 9000 pounds. For the last few years points champions have switched back and forth between lights and limiteds. If a light can get hooked up they generally will win the class but generally the tracks we pull on are not the greatest and will favor the limiteds.

Hard one to answer. I know 4.1s that run from 1800 to 2300 HP. I assume the 540s do the same. I have seen dyno sheets that say top tier 540s have more HP than 4.1s (100 or less) and top tier 4.1s have more torque (200 to 400). Like always it depends on your setup for a particular track. I do know a SB crank runs 13 grand so it's easy to see the appeal of the 540s. These numbers show why it's an interesting class when they're run together. IMHO 9000 isn't enough weight for these classes.

They run right together light pro makes 100-200 hp more but the limited pros are 200-300 more tq weight them both at 9000 an it's a great competitive class
