301 engine March 08, 2016 02:26AM
Does anyone out there know how I can tell if a 301 engine is a tractor engine or a combine engine?

Non-tractor engines had the engine ID stamped on the vertically on the right side of the engine, basically behind the alternator. Tractors were of course on the left near the center of the engine. Aside from the mounting plates, there is no down-side to a combine engine that I'm aware of.

Thanks that helps. I have what I believe is a ID number but when I try to Google it nothing comes up. I can't remember which side the number came from as my husband just read it off to me. We will find out when we get home. We are building a pulling tractor and was just curious. Thanks again.
