426 AC valve springs.
|
Wondering what to run for a decent set of valve Springs in my 426. Something with around 150psi of seat pressure. Herd big block Chev ones with shims but wondering if anyone can give me some other ideas. Thanks ! |

That's what we use B.B.Chevy just check for binding if you got ground cam. |

Did you have to shim them at all to get the correct height? What do you mean by binding? I have a billet cam. |

An example of binding would be...if a spring has a installed height of 1.500 and the coils touch (bind) at 1.00 that leaves .500 of spring travel, say .060 for clearance so there's .440 of useable spring.now the cam has a lift of .400,and a 1.5 rocker arm ratio is used,so now lift at the valve is .600.so the spring has a negative clearance of .160. This will bend a rocker or pushrod.it's best to do the numbers on paper and call a supplier.I use Pac spring in michigan |

Thanks for the clarification. I never took that into consideration at all. I'm not 100% sure on the cam as I havnt got it yet and I'm quite new to this, but I believe it's .245" lift and 1.65 rocker ratio |

the can doesn't need to be installed to check lift either, support the ends in 2 oiled "v" blocks and put a dial indicator on it,find the lowest point, set indicator to "0" and spin cam slowly, mark the highest reading, multiply by rocker ratio, thats lift at the valve, |
