LSS Gearing September 12, 2016 03:48AM
What kind of gear range is seen in the LSS class on an alky tractor? What would be a good starting point for a state level tractor?

Re: LSS Gearing September 12, 2016 05:00AM
Depending the motor setup but a decent starting point would be 17.5:1 to 18.5:1

State level I would say 18, 19, or 20 gear ratio, depending on motor & turbo combination.

Do you see much difference in gearing need when comparing Puller 2000 or old style double cuts?

What about a twin turboed diesel

Re: LSS Gearing September 12, 2016 07:51AM
Wow, I run a 20:1 in my llss.

20:1 in a LLSS, diesel? I know a few guys around here are under 17:1 in LSS.

Re: LSS Gearing September 12, 2016 10:21AM
20:1 in an Alky llss have even run 18.5:1

Tires will make a difference. Pretty tough to compare LLSS as sled settings are probably 3 blocks less for LLSS. Grand national caliber LSS may run a faster ratio, he specifically said state level. Diesel state level should likely be in a 14-15 gear.

I have heard that some of the lss smokers run around a 12.1 gear. Seems like a big gear but its what I was told.

Re: LSS Gearing September 14, 2016 12:36AM
12.1 better have four turbochargers and your stuff together!

Re: LSS Gearing September 14, 2016 01:17AM
little angry has a 12.1 gear but the only time we use it is when the beef calves r in the road and the Honda wont start !!!!!

State level IH. 20:1 with HPs on pure power track. Down to an 18:1 from their depending on track.
