Oil filter micron. February 28, 2017 01:05PM
Putting a aviaid oil pump on my Ac pro stock. Getting a single 2" 20gpm oil section and single 1" fuel.
Want to run a oberg filter. Wondering what I should run for a screen in the filter. 60 mircon or 115. Using 50w oil.

The 60 will work fine with 50 wieght oil

Re: Oil filter micron. March 01, 2017 12:38AM
Hopefully u have another section in the avaid for ur turbo? Even if u do a single 20gpm pump isn't enough for a prostock u need Two 20gpm pump sections for the engine and one 1" for the turbo and then ur fuel pump on the rear. Just trying to help dont want u to lose an engine bc of loss of oil. And u should be over 100psi of oil pressure going down the track.

It's just a 426 cube deal with a small turbo. Figured a single 20 gpm section would be plenty to around around 120psi.

We have the 8" 60micron oberg filter in stock at vmppullingparts.com for 353.99

Be careful new puller 120 psi going to the turbo is to much . I run a single with a Peterson limiter going to the turbo

Yes I either plan on running a restrictor in the feed line or a regulator

Re: Oil filter micron. March 01, 2017 08:17AM
40 gallons per minute sounds like a bit much for engine supply no? Seems to me that at that kind of flow you would simply be putting a lot of oil over relief and making un wanted heat. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thx

Re: Oil filter micron. March 01, 2017 09:37AM
U said pro stock and I just wanted to make sure u had enough for that but a 426 will do fine at 20gmp. And to answer Oil pump I have 2 super farm tractors both running a Avaid set up with two 20gpm pumps and we have had zero bearing failure and yes one is a cat and one is a IH. One we built and the IH we bought and that's how it came. Plus I know of a few Prostocks running the same set up we are and they are not having any problems.

Stock crankshaft driven A-C pump is 24 GPM @2300 RPM................

Re: Oil filter micron. March 02, 2017 04:17AM
Is that the tractor or combine pump. The combine pump has dual pumps. And can you shim the pressure relief on the pump to bump the pressure up some do you know ?

Re: Oil filter micron. March 02, 2017 09:06AM
Combine pump has a scavenge pump for the flywheel end of the shallow oil pan. It doesn't add anything to the GPM of the system. Sure, you can crank in the pressure regulator on the block, but you know, I work on a twin-spin 301 with 1200 HP and for 10 plus years never have run over 55 psi oil pressure, so I don't think you need to either. Use 15W-40 oil too.

To AC 8070 we have one tractor with two 6inch oberg filters and are IH has one 8inch oberg filter. The best thing to do is have a 8inch filter for each section of pump we just ran out of room.

What size of aviaid fuel pump are you guys running? Im running 3000 rpm, 640 ci, with a A Pump. When you run dual 2 inch pumps for engine oil what kind of filter housing do you use? Heard bad things in the past about oberg on this fourm. Thanks

Re: Oil filter micron. March 02, 2017 08:55AM
Ive had several of the obergs including the holey obergs now I'm using a system one canister filter that I like the best it has a lot of screen surface and you can get a 45 micron .If you go Oberg I wouldnt get the one bolt holey to hard to keep from leaking

Re: Oil filter micron. March 02, 2017 11:56AM
I agree with Lewis. The System One setup is nice. I run 150 PSI on mine. I was also told to stay away from the Oberg.

Re: Oil filter micron. March 03, 2017 01:23AM
Lewis which system one you running exactly and what's your motor setup?

Re: Oil filter micron. March 03, 2017 01:40PM
I'm running the tall with the 45 micron screen I think I got it from Jegs or Speedway.I didn't like the 60 in the obergs because the bearings would always look like they had real fine scratches in them .Now I'm running it on a alky dt 360 llss tractor that has the big pump in it that run about 80 pounds of oil pressure after it s hot and around a 130cold I also run a separate Wix spin on to the hx60 turbo if you flatten the screen out in the system one it would be lager than a 12 inch Oberg that's why I went with the 45 micron to catch the finer stuff
