How to tell gear ratios July 01, 2017 11:21PM
I have 19/44constant mesh gears tranny gears of 40/23 pinion gear of 19 ring gear of 50 bull pinion of 13 an bull gear of 73. I please am I need of help figuring out what my final gear ratio is.
Thanks in advance for your help
Thanks morgans for the space

19.68 to 1

I think it was discussed on here a while back, but you want to find how many turns of the input is equal to one turn of the output (engine to axle) .

You figure each step individually and then multiply them together to get the final ratio.

Example:
19/44 constant mesh gears (44/19=2.3157894736842105263157894736842)
tranny gears of 40/23 (23/40=.575)
pinion gear of 19 ring gear of 50 (50/19=2.6315789473684210526315789473684)
bull pinion of 13 an bull gear of 73 (73/13=5.6153846153846153846153846153846)
Then multiply all of them together.
2.3157894736842105263157894736842 x 0.575 x 2.6315789473684210526315789473684 x 5.6153846153846153846153846153846 = 19.677178776901768591519284040059

So that is 19.677178776901768591519284040059 turns of the input shaft to 1 turn of the axle, or a final ratio or 19.68 to 1.

The reason you divide the driven side of the "set" by the drive side of the "set" is because you want to know how many times the driven gear will turn in relation to 1 tun of the drive gear. The example from above of the Pinion gear driving the Ring gear. so you take the teeth on the Ring gear (driven) 50 and divide them by the Pinion gear (drive) 19 to equal 2.63 . I just wanted to explain that in case anyone wasn't sure how I arrived at the math above, I always learned more from learning why something was done, than just being to how to do it.
