Profarm 466 dry block September 10, 2017 01:45PM
How many profarm 466, limited rpm guys run a dry block? Sure seems to me to make things a lot simpler, but will they live?
Thanks

Went to dry block this year at 3000 RPM. Had a few nights where it would stay warm but nothing outrageous, get you a leaf blower and dont look back. Make sure you leave the main and rod bearings a little loose and have about.020 piston to sleeve clearance and you should be fine.

Thanks for the input.

When you guys dry block, do you run water in the head at all? Just want to learn how you get them cooled back down if you get to re-pull.

No water anywere. When you get done pulling and you have to come back around or are in a pull off, best bet is to shut it down asap and get leaf blower on it to circulate cooler air.

Been running dry block for 3 years now on a 3000rpm tractor. Never had any trouble yet with it always pull twice per event. I got a 12 volt Minni squirrel cage fan mounted in the front of the head in the water port and knocked out a couple frost plugs in the block and back of the head. Just leave the fan run in between hooks and always cools down. Put a water temp Gage on it and the hottest I've ever seen it after the second pass and getting back to the trailer was 210. Didn't have much cool down time and was 100 degrees out. I got my fan from joe Busch if that helps

No water anywhere. Went dry head last year with water in the block. Still headaches so we went all dry this year. Watching the oil temp we won't run until at least 130 and at the end of the run we will be at 145-160. Get the leaf blower out and let it run over the oil pan and the motor to cool it off. This year I plan to install a fan mounted to the block that will run after the first hook and let it run until the second hook. Best move we have made, it eliminates all the water issues going in the cylinder. Now running the copper head gasket only thing you have to seal is the oil.

Where do you place oil temp sensor?

Running the oil temp sensor in the pan. Prolly wouldn't hurt to have it in the block or another in the block.

Thanks.

I have also heard I should drive out freeze plugs and use a leaf blower to blow through them between hooks. Do I need to make some type of manifold to plug into them, then connect the leaf blower to it? I tend to over think things

I drove out the freeze plugs and run the leaf blower from the front of the motor where the water would go in. I have been tempted to put some back in and let the air pick up velocity instead having many places to escape. I have seen guys make a manifold that bolts on the thermostat housing and goes to the ground so you can just slide the leaf blower on it and let it sit on the ground.

What kind of 12 volt fans are you guys running? I searched online and can't find anything that looks like it will last.

I ran .015 piston clearance on 640 lim pro. No problems. Bullit coated pistons tho so if using stock pistons you might want more
