PPL 3.0 truck question? October 21, 2017 06:52AM
Considering building for this class and have a couple general questions. From a cummins base do most build up to the maximum 460 cubes? Approximately what horsepower range does it take to be competitive? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you want to be competitive in ANY PPL class you better make it as big and stand on it as hard as rules allow. Not being a $mart a$$, just being rrealistic.

Not many of the truck guys are pushing the cubic inch limits, a lot of the deck plate engines are 394-415 cubes.

Agree with what others have said. 391 CI is pretty common. 1300+HP is needed to be competitive. Top 5 runners have north of 1350+HP.

Thank you very much for the replies it gives me the information I needed to get started.

Bigger Cubes don't always mean more power. 9 times out of 10 a smaller cube motor will make peak power higher, where your trying to run the engine anyways. A 5.9 is plenty of cubes in this class unless you have no budget whatsoever leave it simple. Best head you can afford and up to date fuel and air and you can be competitive.

Kiss,

I can assure you the Top Cummins powered OSTPA trucks are not 5.9 motors.

Re: PPL 3.0 truck question? October 26, 2017 04:40AM
They are closer in cubic inch to a 5.9 than they are to the max allowable cubic inch per the rules.

I finished 3rd in the ostpa and 4th in the ntpa with a 5.9. Its very doable.

Does that mean they made more power or just liked to waste money? Several very simple 5.9 motors out there that run extremely good.

That's great a 5.9 was able to place 3rd in OSTPA points...not any easy task in a great bunch of trucks. I am just saying and agreeing with Takedown, if you want to be in the hunt you need to be 390 to 400 plus cubic inch, of which requires requires a sleeved deckplate setup with a 5.9 crank. While spending the money you mite as well put a 6.7 crank in it IMO.

Now I know why a few trucks win most everywhere they go.

1350+hp...I don't think so.

Re: PPL 3.0 truck question? November 06, 2017 12:57AM
What do you think they are making then?

Re: PPL 3.0 truck question? November 06, 2017 11:58AM
Just because your turbo doesn't 1350 doesn't mean they aren't making 1350+

Why not use your real name there takedown95, the fact of the matter here is I have dyno sheets and you only know what you are told. You don't need deck plates and 1350hp to compete in the Limited Pro Stock class, real competitors know this.
