What type of tractor is The Bandit in the second to last 1987 photo? Massey? Or something different?

Thanks for posting more photos from way back when I was barely even born!

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 11:06AM
looks like a massey. if you look close, you can see 2805 on the hood

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 11:14AM
That smoke tube looks like the same one I saw in 2006 when I was there!!!Smiling

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 11:31AM
Hey GREAT PICS LOVE THEM ITS COOL TO LOOK AT THE TRACTORS BACK IN THE DAY

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 11:23AM
In some of those pictures, I was able to find my face in the audience.

It would be interesting to see where those tractors are today, and if any are still pulling or stashed away in a dusty barn somewhere. What's bad is as good as those tractors ran, most would not be competetive with much over the current so called "farm stock" tractors that run some county fairs for trophys.

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 11:39AM
The second picture in 1986 Is Steve Miller "Salvage King".

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 11:48AM

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 02:17PM
That tractor is/was owned by Dave Best from Greensburg, IN.

Re: Way back when 1986 February 19, 2010 06:52AM
220 tractor is still in the shed got it started this summer and brought it up to boost then backed it back in i last pulled it in mid 90 and it has lot more power than a farm stock does now

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2010 12:02PM

Some really great pictures.Thanks. I'm guessing that the G-1000 MM puller is Don Nolans pro stock?

Re: Way back when 1986 February 19, 2010 02:51AM
The Haugen Hero II was Alfred Haugen from Wisconsin. Al passed away last year and it was nice to see a picture to remember him again.

Its amazing how things have changed, for more than 30 years very few pullers felt the need for any kind of roll protection. With one accident that all changed.

Re: Way back when 1986 January 12, 2014 06:28PM
gonzo 1066 isn't that the truth. How many pullers did not use seat belts?

Re: Way back when 1986 January 13, 2014 12:40AM
I was looking at the 4320 pro stock in the first group of photos and was wondering what the hot setup was for pro stock in 1986. Would it be much different than what a hot farm or super farm is today?

Re: Way back when 1986 January 15, 2014 01:15AM
Markfarm I can go ask John Linder for you,].That is Linders tractor. They pulled that tractor up until a few years ago when they went component. It won many NTPA,Louisville,Bowling Green and OSTPA titles.

Re: Way back when 1986 January 13, 2014 12:06PM
The 1155 is Paul Fredreiks from Heyworth Ill.. I'm sure I missed the spelling of his last name. He also had a 6030 super and also drove John Bocowitz's 6030 super Big John After John quit driving.

Re: Way back when 1986 January 13, 2014 01:35PM
I don't know but a good running llss would have kicked the crap out of the 1986 gran national champ ss in 86

Re: Way back when 1986 January 13, 2014 02:24PM
I would suppose that a current LLSS would kick the crap out of a 1986 Super. BUT if you figured how much it cost to build the 1986 tractor compared to building one in 2014, what would the difference be?? I would suspect tens of thousands dollars more today.. The quality of the parts today is amazing.

Re: Way back when 1986 January 13, 2014 11:58PM
They wouldn't move a 86 sled just spin.

Re: Way back when 1986 January 14, 2014 12:14PM
You wouldn't happen to have a picture of Mark Fox's Shake Rattle and Roll tractor would you?

Re: Way back when 1986 February 18, 2018 02:43PM
I'd like to see them if you had any luck finding pictures of the old "shake rattle and roll" tractor. Jon Fox

Re: Way back when 1986 January 15, 2014 01:22AM
I've always wanted to see a modern tractor try to pull an old style sled that has the pan on the ground to start. So it's an actual pull for 300 feet, not tow/race for 150 feet then hang on and hope you don't crap the motor out with too high of a gear.

Re: Way back when 1986 January 15, 2014 06:37AM
depends on which sleds you're talking about...thumb, leudtke, hagar, schaeffer, etc. all had pretty easy to start sleds back in the day. there were way more of the real old style that had the pan on the ground completely still around, but they'd have no problem pulling one of the newer sleds from around '86. heck there's still some in action and I"ve seen newer tractors pull them.

Re: Way back when 1986 January 15, 2014 12:54PM
Get some of the Sipes on here they're pulling the same tractor now other than the cummins engine or Fox with the old Billy Long tractor bothe has changed engines to keep up now
