D312 or D360. 312's were found in 666's, early 686's, and Hydro 70's. D360's were found in 766 & early 886 tractors, and some 453 IH hillside combines, as well in some IH tree skidders, sometimes w/ a turbo. 360's were also found in some IH trucks in various turbocharged & turbocharged/aftercooled versions.

300 series (312-360) are the little brothers to 400 series.just a small block version with cubes in the 300 numbers.400 series are in the 400 numbers,(414,436,466).the prefix tells what the engine is.D is for diesel,T is for turbo,A is after cooled.example,D360,DT360,DTA360.

so let me get this strait, a DT360 out of a truck, with a 666 or 686 backplate will bolt right in, no modifications, what about clutch? thanks for all the help!

You will need a different flywheel/clutch assembly if you want to use the truck engine.

You might need the front cover off the D312 to put a truck D360 in a 666 or 686 as well.

Keep in mind that the 460 and 560 have different bell housing size. the 560 is alot bigger and the same as an M farmall

If you have the back and front plates off of a 666-686 312 engine you can also BOLT IN a 400 series engine, the 414-436-466 series engines. This combination is just a bit longer (3") than the 300 series and a bit heavier. If weight is a big issue this might not work. The one drawback to the 300 series is that the availability of a stock upright turbo manifold is nill. You will have to go to a hedder or fabed cast manifold. I am in the process of building a cast turbo manifold for a fellow in the midwest.

Just wondering if the DT 436 engine with the turbo on the top of motor. Will fit into my international 560 tractor. If So what all will i need in parts to do the job.
