they are actually not really "light" (7700 lbs).

We have the "regular" Super Stock, which is basically the same as your "open" with the difference of not allowing the big Cummins V8s and being 7700 lbs instead of 8000 lbs.
The "light" Super Stock I described above is pretty much a thing in the Netherlands and France only. In the NL as they have more "open" SS than they can handle intheir first league (and not yet enough for the second) and France basically because it's almost impossible to run smokers there anymore, so a lot of their (7700 lbs / 510cui) Pros Stocks were changed to Alky Burners in the last year or two. I am not sure they are illegal (they still run compact diesels), but if you want some bad press and lots of angry letters to the local newspaper, just put some smokers on the track...
We had the same thing going on here in Germany in the 90s, but for luck if there is one thing unfashionable for the young generation here now, it's being a "tree hugger". It could be said we are in kind of a "past tree hugger influence" society - after a lot of race tracks were shut down or limited to only a few events a year. Our biggest issues here right now is safety = having "approved by government licensed technical institution" rules. I think that sounds like a really neat class. Maybe let diesel's run 2 turbos (max 4.2") to get some smoke in there. Is there very many tractors in this class? |

Actually the European Light Superstock rules are 466cui, one turbo, max 4,2" inlet, and component allowed. Head and weight as Sascha stated above. |

In 2019 now the rules book is settle and we have to run OEM heads.
But there is 2 capacity option: - 7.6L with 2 valves per cylinder - 7.0L with 4 valves Many new tractor are in the game since 2017!! |

The class is now correctly called "limited Super Stock" after it started as a "light SS" in the Netherlands (diet coke is also "light coke" here).
The rules are not online in English - same as NTPA. Buy the book..... That 108mm air restrictor the way it is described here won't work though (at least not to limit it under 3500 hp). When the "higher ups" don't want to listen to those ho have experiences with stuff...

The 108 mm is what they agreed on, so I am not going to tell them what power level they want to run.
My main issue is, the restrictor the way it is described, doesn't work. I know they got their data from tests done at a Belgian university and we used the very same data when we designed the restrictors for the Hot Farm classes in Germany when we started. But just two years later things were getting out of hand as we had guys here who had access to computers and software at universities (and knew how to use that) who sat down and designed restrictors. Funny shapes on front and behind the restrictors, golf ball surface and stuff like that. "Good" restrictors all of a sudden cost more than the turbos and allowed for 80mm turbos behind a 68mm "restrictor". So I went to the very same guy and convinced him that this is not the intention here and got him to design a restrictor that actually works. He did so. What we have now is a 68mm Restrictor that allows for app. 900-1000 hp (Hx 60 with 73.5mm inlet seems to work best with it - on tough tracks smaller turbos often do better). The Pullers of course back then all HATED it. Now they praise it, as we have 10 tractors in the class that can and do win and even those guys getting new into the class know what they are getting themselves into. There are like 27 tractors in the class and it's really about who has his tractor set up the best on the day. Turbos last forever and there is no need to update them every year. What we currently use is here on page 16: [www.tractorpulling.de] Then I went to the very same guy when getting the design for our Lim Mod restrictor. We don't have too much info on how well it works yet and what power output it will be, but guys that used to run 5 bars of boost without restrictor now dropped down to 3 bar with it and so far it looks like quite a level playing field at somewhere between 2200 - 2400 hp. That's a 100 mm in that same "swirling edge" design. And then here came a new class with new rules, totally ignoring what has happened in the past 7 years in regards to restrictor rules and implements the very same thing that failed already years ago, and makes it 108 mm (9160 mm^2) on Alky. 68mm (3632 mm^2) with that shape was already 1200+ hp on diesel.
