456 engines January 02, 2020 12:33PM
Is there any difference between the 456’s found in combines and the ones found in tractors. I know the early ones in tractors had a 6 bolt crank instead of the 8. Anything else

I think there are double oil squirters. Also extra oil galleys between cylinders. If you bore very big for liners. You’ll b into them. Just have to block off some how.

There are no double oil jets. The 456 with 6 bolt cranks are were used in the 40 series. The 8 bolts were used in the combined and Genesis tractors. You want a block with the letter “T” casted in the block where the oil pump will be. If it doesn’t don’t waste your time with it for pulling. Wanna repower an older ford tractor, go for it. Now the early Larger TM series and the CR 920 and CR940 used the Genesis block but a newer version. How you can tell is on the side of the block there is an cast area where you can pin the crank for timing purposes. They had to do this cause the casting were loosing there tolerances. As for the heads there a few with different casting numbers. I have the prints for all of the heads and there are tiny differences. As for the block castings, again there are tiny differences.
