I have a 6 cylinder ih gas motor in a 1973 ih pickup my pap bought new.the only casting number I see is 3218618 on the left front of block.it does have ih cast there too.if you were sitting in truck the manifolds are on the driver's side,spark plugs on passenger side,appears to have 6 port intake cast in pairs..any ideas on what it is

Most likely it is a C301.

Check the top, front, right side of the block. There should be a machined spot with the engine series and CI stamped in. If I remember correctly mine said BG265 or BD265.
