Willingness to make hard decisions March 10, 2020 05:30AM
It seems like pulling organizations and the pullers themselves need to look at emerging trends and be willing to make hard decisions, even if some of those decisions may drive away a few pullers in hopes of paying dividends for a larger group.

One topic that would be a hard decision is the super stock discussion in other threads (not going to rehash that here).
Other "hard decisions" that may need to be on the table are engine rules for modifieds, should any of the single-charger tractor classes be merged or eliminated, purse structure, etc.

What are some of the "hard decisions" you feel the pulling orgs need to implement soon to help the sport (or various classes) to be around for the future?

Great question. I think a good place to start would be rules and how do they impact a class. When rules are being discussed the very first question that needs to be asked is " will this rule grow the class or not". So many times rules are decided because the person with the biggest check book as all the say. I believe that this problem is true from top to bottom of the sport. And pulling finds it hard, if not impossible to make the hard decisions. It's always their M.O. to take the easy way out. And the fact is that some organizations are worse than others when it comes to being lazy and complacent. It's time for leadership to lead.

You are so right on that Dick. Look at Outlaws after their leader left. Half the pulls and pullers. They had a leader that was smart enough to make good rules and stuck to them. Most of these clubs now let the inmates run the asylum!

So marginally smaller numbers (you'll have to prove that claim of "half") is entirely due to Doug Roberts departure, huh? Nothing to do with aging pullers, a farm economy that's tanked, and the ebb and flow of membership simply due to life-changes?

As for numbers of events...seems like 35 events (34, maybe?) is a pretty full schedule to me.

(Sorry to derail this one, Michael; just wanted to make a point for the record.)
