Little to improve much to be where you want to be, 15 hp doesn't do much except frustrate you. Bore and stroke, - then go bigger than planned first time, it takes 100 plus hp to be competitive in 4500 # 3 - 4 mph classes small tire classes. If you think the stock tractor winning is stock, go home stay there.

I know the top tractors aren't stock I even have a pretty good idea on what their turning. I place last year a few times with the setup I have. Just wanting a little more to were I dont have to pull the t/a like I have to sometimes in the 6500lb class. I have two others i pull in the bigger classes so no extra money for the 400 this year. Next year I'll stroke it. I heard a w-9 carb would add 10hp so just curious if there is any other tricks

it takes fuel, timing, carb setting, air intake system and air pressure, tires, weight distribution also

Re: 400 farmall more power March 23, 2020 11:11AM
I know weight and tire pressure does it need more than stock carburetor?

It might take 100 plus horsepower in the 4500 lb 3-4 mph class at a national level pull but it sure doesn't take that much at lots of local level pulls..My 110 hp MM U has never embarrassed me at the local pulls in 5500 thru 6500 at 4 mph..I'm a spectator at national level pulls...

Re: 400 farmall more power March 23, 2020 11:32AM
I was guess our top competitor to be about 130hp at our local pull. Not looking to place every time just be a little tougher. I honestly think the tires are to much for it right now they bite hard. Never spins until you have to pull the t/a

Horsepower is a product of RPM and Torque. Focus on increasing (or maximizing) one or both of those factors to get you what you want.

YOU can open up the ventura in the carb you you have thin the throttle shaft and shave the head and while your at it clean up under the valves a little and get a grind put on the cam as Patches said all of that shouldnt cost over 350 dollars
