Making sbjd offset key for cam gear
|
Anyone know how much to take off a keyway to get a 4 degree offset on the cam gear? Thanks |

Diameter x pie / 360 x degree of offset
For example if your gear is 6”. 6 x 3.14 = 18.84 / 360 (360 degrees in rotation) = .052 per degree x 4 = .208 = amount to offset if gear is 6’ |

Wouldn't it actually be the size for cam nose? |

Just asking

Just asking a question for me to understand. The step keys we use are 1/4 x3/16. You wouldn’t get one step out of it at that rate. I’m thinking ( probably totally wrong). The math is correct on how far you need to move gear O.D.. Not at gear I.D. For some reason I’m thinking you’ll be like .012 |

Math is correct but you need to do inside diameter |

Yes inside a little will move it a lot |

Why

What SBJD are we working with here?
If it’s a 404 from a 30 series or newer just press the cam gear off the cam hub, make the gears a slip fit then set your cam timing and weld it together. 4010\4020 then you’ll need an offset key. |

My bad. As stated by others it would need to be calculated from cam nose. Thanks guys |
