I came across JD skidder 648 rear end. I know years ago they used them in modified tractors & some trucks.
Would it work on a single blown engine modified in a 5500 to 5800 class? How heavy are they? Do they have internal brakes or would you have to mount external brakes? How much HP can they handle? Any other info you can share would be appreciated. |

I don't know how heavy they are but I do believe they are cast iron. IF you are building something "new" then I believe you are supposed to be building something out of "steel"? And yet today at the Half Century of Progress show at Rantoul, Illinois I saw a component tractor that is supposed to be safer and made out of "steel" have Gleaner final drives that are made out of cast iron on it! |

Which ones were that JD made? Mods used to use them all the time but they were really heavy. |
