Are you asking just about bore with out new sleeves, or bore and stroke?
In the stock 800 cyl jug, a 5.5 inch bore is common. It takes the 800 out to 855, of course that is with the stock 6 inch stroke. I do not know what the largest bore in a stock sleeve could be. I know when they start to get real big, they are not only putting new sleeves in, but cutting and rewelding the jug.

Re: 800hd minneapolis moline August 24, 2009 03:06PM
do you think a 5.75 bore would be getting to thin? that would get you over 900 if there is enough there to do it. thanks

I know some people are machining the blocks for sleeves. i know some people have gotten around 1050 ci's

I don't know if there is enuogh iron left in a stock 800 sleave to go another .25 on top of 5.5. I kind of doubt it. However, if you are set on using a stock sleave, and go to the 5.5 bore, a 7" stroked crank will put you out to 997, that is pretty healthy. Contact Lawrence Willson out of the Carolinas or Doug Henderson up in Michigan. They can probably tell you what can be done, or has been done. I know Doug has some pretty big engines out there in competition.

Thanks for your responses. I have another question. The motor is carburated and im thinking of going fuel injected. what would the benefits be from carb.to injected power wise.

Re: 800hd minneapolis moline August 26, 2009 06:39AM
The problem might be finding an injection system that will feed that many cubes. Is there one out there? Multi carbs might be cheaper.

Re: 800hd minneapolis moline August 26, 2009 06:50AM
I know there are some out there, but i don't no what they have. If they bought the system or if they made it themselves. just curious on the benefits carb vs injection.

Re: 800hd minneapolis moline August 26, 2009 07:38AM
There are plenty of injection setups that will feed that beast. You just have to assemble the components yourself. If tuned right you will definately be able to get more power for the setups. There are mechanical injection setups that fuel 2000+HP SS tractors so yours should be no problem. You just need to make sure you buy a quality pump, and use the proper sized injector nozzles. You might want to build a custom intake to plumb your injectors into and you can use up to 3 or 4 nozzles per intake runner. If you are running a turbo(which I doubt you are) you will also have to use a boost reference valve. Good Luck. Love the Moline and it sounds like it'll be a beast!

What class and where? August 26, 2009 11:19AM
What class are you building for and where are you going to pull?

Re: What class and where? August 26, 2009 12:59PM
looking at pulling open non turbo classes in the midwest.

Re: What class and where? August 26, 2009 01:42PM
What area of the mid-west. Anywhere near IL? May want to send you some potential rules for pulls that may come up in IL.

Re: What class and where? August 26, 2009 08:23PM
I once saw an HD800 that had airplane pistons in it. They are forged and he got them out of an airplane boneyard for next to nothing, sleeves to nothing. Had them cleaned, machined, and coated all for less then new pistons and they were far superior. I think he ended up close to 1000 c id. Started off with a Stromburg tank carb and it was bad, switched to hilborn mechanical fi and it was completely wicked. So much bitching from his club they set an 850 cid limt. Figures!!!

Re: What class and where? August 27, 2009 05:17PM
ya figures. that worries me a little to, that the rules might magically change over the winter. There is already some unhappy people and we aren't that big YET.
