8-10 mph gearing March 03, 2022 05:33AM
Building a transmission with direct one under and two under. I want to put a mph gear in also. Most places that run pace run 8-10 mph. Tractor will have a torque. Engine is 3000 rpm 466 with a 3lm. What king of gear is about right for that. Will also have stock tooth count CM.

Stock 2nd on high side is a good 8mph gear but unless you have better than stock pump and injection then you won't be able to hang in that gear.

You need a gear thats at least 25% faster than the class speed limit...

What do you like for a 12 mph IH 66 series type of tractor, high 3rd to much? Is a custom gear needed? 3000 rpm

3rd is definitely too fast. Most 66 guys are running a custom 2.4 or 2.5 gear for 12 mph. Karl at Atlas can hook you up with a gear set.

In late May I'll probably have an Atlas 40-33 IH gear for sale that goes in the third gear slot..It has about 25 passes on it in a 12.5 mph class..It runs a little over 14 mph with some tall 20.8's....I'm moving up to a 38-35 gear..

It will do you no good if you are running a stock 26-47 constant mesh..Mine is 28-45 constant mesh..

I assume with that gearset you do not have direct
