Does anyone use a D414 non intercooled block, such as the 966 tractor came with, in a turbocharged class such as hot farm? I have one and unsure if I should keep it. Block looks to be in good condition.

An IH DT400 Series block is a DT400 series block. They are all the same until you get to some of the real late model mechanical ones they put in trucks. I heard some of them had a little less material in the crank case area.

But yes, do what you want. Turbo Charge it, buy a 466 rebuild kit and go bigger, have it bored and deck plated, buy a billet crank, and make it a 680. All the blocks are the same.

Basically he is correct except they come in two different tappet bore sizes and the 466e is definitely lighter. We got one to look over and it was 250 pounds lighter mainly in the bottom end.

The non turbo blocks do not have piston cooling jets, the holes are there, they are just plugged. So, if you use a non-turbo block, I highly recommend removing the plugs and installing piston cooling jets.

also the early 400 series motors have shorter main bearing bolts and the main bolt webbing does not go up into the block as far. Most builders won't use them for higher HP applications.
