Injection pump & nozzle size?

I was wanting to get some opinions/advice as to what size of injection pump & nozzle tips would work best for the tractor I'm building. Here's what engine its going on:
IH DT407, bored out to 466 cubes 3LM-466 charger no specs on the cam or head, dunno what route I'm taking there yet (assume stock head for now). 3000 RPM's It's intended for a 1206, hoping to be in the 8700 & 9700 lb classes, run in High 3rd. I want to utilize a Bosch A pump. I know what I gotta do to mount the pump on the engine. The inj. lines I already figure at .093 lines, but I'm not sure how many CC's at the pump would be best, and what size tips? I'm thinking somewhere in the 400-500 cc range on the pump, and maybe 4x.022 or 4x.025 tips. I'm not ready for the fuel system yet, but I wanna have an idea what to use for when that time comes. Any pointers? Thanks in advance! |

In the Northeast Nebraska area. Our rules do allow for us to all upgrade to a Bosch A pump w/ 10mm plungers, so I kinda figured I'd just go that way right off the bat, and avoid using a 450 Roosa for a few years, only to update to an A pump later on. |

Call tri state diesel in vermillion sd #605-624-4703. He will have a good idea what will work the best for your setup. |

Is that Ryan Kunze? I'd heard rumor he was now up in South Dakota running a new pump shop. |

You wont even burn 400 cc of fuel with a stock 3lm |

Sure you can burn 400cc with a 407 punched out to 466. With the right cam and set up it will easily take that. I know of guys running 301's with holset H1 chargers burning 400 no problem. Its all in the set up. I wouldnt go under 400 i would go closer to 500 with a good cam and maybe some head work. |

That's kinda why I didn't want to use a 450 Roosa, although they can be made to flow whatever, most I think, were around 330 - 350cc's. A 500 Roosa would be closer, but I haven't heard the greatest feedback on them when it comes to reliability. I think I'd be a lot happier w/ a 500cc A pump. |

your deffinately better off with an a pump. Alot more reliable and you have room to expand there too. Chances are your gonna have one built for 600 or better sense most shops build them up around there and just turn ur pump down alittle so then if you decide to go bigger you already have the fuel. |

He has to stay to a 10 ml a pump if he wants to be legal. Good luck getting 600 cc out of one of them. Go ahead and give it all the fuel you can, it will flood it out and you will go backwards. |

With staying at 10 ml he can easily get 400cc, and thats not even gonna come close to flooding that. You do realize that most of the 13mm rotarys out there now are putting out over 400cc. Thats not that much fuel for a 466. With the right cam it will take it no problem. With the right head work it will take 500 no problem. And theres a good chance it will be outfront also. If you look he plans on pulling light class;s hes gonna be spinning not lugging so that makes a difference on putting that kind of fuel to it, Hes gonna be able to keep pretty damn close to 3000 rpms the whole way down the track. |

How about tip size? Am I in the right ballpark w/ 4x.022 or 4x.025 tips? I'm hoping it can be fairly competitive, and put on a good show. |

I'd like to say yes, but at this time, no, sorry. Did you have it on a Deere, or on a 361/407? That's what I'll eventually need. I'm hoping Uncle Sam is generous this tax season, so I can start on the engine. Thanks again for the offer! |

I run A 13mm rotary with a 3lm on a 360 and it burns it all but i would recomend some head and cam work to burn it |
