Streams, TV - or "the next level" June 08, 2023 10:50AM
After more than one year in the streaming business, we've probably now found out what works;

The extra attention a free-to-watch stream on Youtube gets, along with the revenue through youtube advertising, is actually worth enough sponsor money, to pay for the film crew.
It took a while to realize, Youtube is the new "public TV" - and if you want to generate new fans, you gotta be on there.

We had 28.000 people watch our last event live on Youtube - and the chat was revealing, we had to deal with a lot of question from people who had never seen a tractor pull in their life, but following the show with interest.

So - if your association pays any TV channel for time slots or production - STOP that NOW - don't beat a dead horse - pay guys to do live streams, get a good announcer for the stream and get live on YT!

Europe has understood it.
This means some of the best of the German, Dutch, and Italian circuits will be live on YT.
We will be taking care of the live coverage from Germany, Italy and some Danish pulls on:

The Dutch circuit you can follow live on:
www.ntto.tv -> linking to YT channels for each promoter, where they then put the free streams.

Might be worth subscribing to those channels, if you want to watch some live pulling this season.

That said, if you want to see full events and more events from the US, without ads, etc. - we still feed to www.wwptv.plus - some for free and some pay-per-view.

Free, good advice is Europe's biggest export.

Re: Streams, TV - or "the next level" June 09, 2023 02:51AM
lol
We got forced into this.
A lot of the, let's call it "second tier" motorsports went live and free on Youtube last year. Now try to explain to the general public, why they can watch (and get attached) to racing on the Nürburgring or every race at the biggest EU dragstrip on Youtube for free, or why they should pay 12.99 to watch a 3-hour tractor pull, if they have never seen it before (and we need NEW fans!)

Live streams on youtube generate A LOT of attention, as Youtube, of course, wants to sell their ads - and if people watch something for more than 10 minutes (and different to compilations, live streams do that if you have commentary targeted at new viewers/people in front of the TV or computer), that's where they can start to make money and start to share the video to the people online, who they think could be interested in watching it. So that's "our target audience" already sorted by their algorithm.
As said - we just started this as a test balloon with one event here and at the end of the show, we had 28,000 people who had watched it. Tough job to put up that many posters.
The key then is to keep them engaged, and get them more info, which is why we do the "floating finish" web show/podcast every Wednesday - which is currently having about 4000 people tuning in over several platforms every week. THAT'S a lot of people we keep updated on where the next events are, give them behind-the-scenes info, inform them about the points races - and make them come (back) to a pull!

If you turn on the subtitles and then choose "translation" in the gear menu, you can get English subtitles. Maybe gives you an idea, of what we're doing here:

Sascha: Always good information. YT live stream with a good audio and video production is a great revenue stream.
NTPA has been with RFDTV, America's most important rural network, for 19 years. RFD TV reaches a key demo for sponsors in US. It has credibility with sponsors for a broadcast outlet. NTPA does provide live stream, archives, pay per view etc. Production value can always be better.

One production question for the Euro groups. Audio is always difficult, any ideas for producing good audio live track?
Have a safe wonderful year.

I am still fighting audio in my live streams.

Not so much the "ambient", but the fact it gets so damn loud and I am sitting in the noise, trying to mix the noise - and announcers that start to scream as soon as a tractor is running and clip any mic - and then when there is no tractor running, are of course not loud enough.

I currently have 4 to 6 channels of audio going + plus one for "background music" when needed.
I currently use one microphone along the track - away from the crowd and pointing towards the track, positioned near the finish line cam and have that quite turned down.
Then all those that talk in the stream get their own mic and get mixed in.
What I still need is a compressor.

Here is a piece out of stream I did as a single operator with two guys doing commentary.
