Bobby might be on the conservative side. I would have said closer to 600lbs. |

now this is just setting the two rear halves next to each other on a scale, your not talking about machining the bull gears and disc brakes and all that extra stuff are ya? just taking the 1466 rear out and bolting the 706 rear in, stock brakes and all, and it will be between 500 and 600 lbs? |

If you decide to make the change? you will need to use a 706 quill shaft for the speed transmission. Also the 706 r&p I believe is faster(6%) than the 1466. |

You won't need to change the mainshaft in the 1466 speed transmission. Just pull the front pinion bearing from the 1466 rear and install it on your 706 pinion. Bearing size is the only issue there. If you intend to keep the 66 series stock shifting you will need to swap the reverse shift shaft and the high low fork and shaft from the 1466 into the 706 rear. Hard to say exactly how much weight you will lose but you should fall somewhere into that 300-500 range i should think |

help is correct, however the 706 quill shaft is stronger. 706 quill accepts a smaller diameter bearing(on the end of the pinion shaft) which gives the quill shaft a heavier wall(drive gear) on the hollow end. |
