Pulling controversy: The rest of the story

In the mid-80s, AC super stock puller Brad Howell was contacted by higher-ups from the manufacturer. His tractor was headed to pull at Elkhorn, WI.
They had a package for his tractor and they wanted the contents installed for the big Grand National pull. AC's factory was not far away and many AC workers would show up to cheer the orange tractors. About that package: Was it a new pump? No.Turbo setup? No. Decals? Yes. You see, Deutz just bought AC. Brad was to put the stuff on the tractor so it would be branded as a Deutz-Allis. Why the controversy? Imagine you're a loyal Allis Chalmers worker and you see a Deutz-Allis tractor. The deal was so new the AC employees had not been told. They found out their company had been sold to a foreign company at a tractor pull, only because one vehicle had Deutz-Allis stickers. Those decals didn't add horsepower, but they did bring luck. Brad won the SS class at Elkhorn with the new Deutz-Allis look. Now you know the rest of the story. Brad Howell article Edited 1 time(s).
