Tariffs April 02, 2025 10:47AM
Seems farmers are going nuts over the possible short term losses in the grain markets from this. The Agtalk forum is going nuts. My question to those of pulloff. Do you comprehend what the word reciprocal means? Is it ok in your mind to keep letting other countries charge the United States tariffs and do nothing? If we want free trade, shouldn't everyone do away with tariffs? I believe that's part of the goal, as Trump himself said today. If other countries lower their tariffs, we will do the same. I just dont understand the freak out over the short term possible inconvenience when it's clear what the longterm goal is and the possibilities it could bring. I am all in for a little pain if that is what it takes to at least try for a better future.

All these countries have been that have had tariffs on our stuff for years needs to end and will end now. Should of been done decades ago, but no one wanted to rock the boat and let them eat our lunch. The Party is over and its about time!!

Every country literally protects their own. Including the US. That is the basis for tariffs. Free trade is a misnomer. Now if you want to talk "fair trade" that's a whole different situation and that's what it's about. It takes time to make these tariff deals. Let alone at the magnitude that Trump is doing. Trump has made it clear the farmers are a tariff protected class. Again.
