Steph, I've always been told that the classic was used on all of the two cylinders and the Ag green began with the New Generation of Deere. JD began using the inline 4 & 6 cylinders in 1960.

4010 puller is correct. If it helps, I had a 7.6 out of a 9965, it came stock with high ring pistons. I traded them out for a set of 40 series, they are low ring and you have room to cut valve reliefs. just as stated above.

Helping my father-in-law, work on his 70 JD GAS burner. I don't know a lot about the two cylinders and hoping to get some advice here. It will probably help if I tell you what I do know about it. It is the stock manifold from the 7720 combine, it's a late model 466 serial #. I'm guessing 50/55 series. Not sure on the turbo, I believe it's a sweitzer, I'll be pulling the hood off this weekend and I'll know for sure. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure if it will be cheaper. I live in Georgia no junk yards and not much farming. I have checked with all the junk yards in neighboring states and the cheapest JD 466 engine I've found was 4 thousands and that's not including the cost to go get it or having it shipped. As I stated I already have the 404 just checking all my options before diving in. I will definitely take t
