Our club is the same way, its optional, but not mandatory. Only plus side to installing a cage (aside from safety), is that if we do, we are then allowed to remove the top 3pt rockshaft from the tractors. Otherwise, they have to remain in place. We do have one tractor that has a factory ROPS bar, that's about it, though. Otherwise, no one else in 3000 RPM class has a cage on at all.

And for if some unknown reason you want a really steep ring & pinion, go w/ an 11/52 ring & pinion for a 3788 or 6788 2+2, comes out to be a 4.73:1 ratio!

13/49 is the fastest of the three, 13/51 is in the middle of the pack, and the 12/49 is the slowest of the three, provided you have the same tire size w/ all three setups.
I stand corrected on my earlier post about the 966 R&P and what they had from factory.

966's should also be the 13/51 ring & pinion, only 66 series that had a 13/49 from factory was a 766 gas.

IH 407's has two different wrist pin sizes, 1.5" and 1.625" diameter wrist pins. The 1.5" ones are easy to find, they're also the same as a D or DT361 engine. The 1.625" pin 407 rods are a lil harder to find, they were only in 1456's, early 915 High Profile combines, and UDT407 power units. Not sure what IH construction equipment that was 407 powered would have had the big pin r

If your rules allow for an A pump, then don't think twice and put an A pump on your tractor!

I can't hardly see how a governor, a mechanical device, could hold the RPM's to, say 3000 RPM's at no load, then scream wild up to 4000 RPM's under full load. For that matter, my own ears would tell me if an engine went from 3000 RPM's on test day w/ no load, then screamed at 4000 RPM's down the track. Any bystandard in the crowd could detect a 1000 RPM difference

Our association checks RPM's w/ a digital handheld tach, everyone has a piece of reflective tape on the balancer, you are RPM checked before the start of the season, your RPM's are set, and your high idle adjusting screw on your pump is sealed. If someone's RPM's are challenged, out comes the tach after their pull, and we look to see if the seal on the idle screw is broken.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there talk of the cube limit for the Superfarms being reduced, to around 540 or so? If that was the case, I'm not so sure many Superfarms would want to swap turbos to pull Limited Pro, knowing they were gonna be about 100 cubes short. Maybe they would just leave their 600+ cube engines alone, swap the turbo, and forget pulling Superfarm altoget

I'd like to say yes, but at this time, no, sorry. Did you have it on a Deere, or on a 361/407? That's what I'll eventually need. I'm hoping Uncle Sam is generous this tax season, so I can start on the engine. Thanks again for the offer!

Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE has a good ag diesel program, which is separate from their truck diesel program. Two year program, goes thru the basics on a tractor & overhauling procedures from front to rear. Second year students do engine overhauls & diesel injection system repair. Internship program between student's first & second year require students to work as a mechanic

You can use the existing 806 framerails, but you'll end up doing some modifying to the framerail itself, where the front cover of the engine meets the frame. I know of both a 806 and 706 that are this way, they both use the 06 framerails & front bolster. I don't know which rear engine plate they're using, and whether the engines had the wide front timing covers for tractors, or t

How about tip size? Am I in the right ballpark w/ 4x.022 or 4x.025 tips? I'm hoping it can be fairly competitive, and put on a good show.

That's kinda why I didn't want to use a 450 Roosa, although they can be made to flow whatever, most I think, were around 330 - 350cc's. A 500 Roosa would be closer, but I haven't heard the greatest feedback on them when it comes to reliability. I think I'd be a lot happier w/ a 500cc A pump.

In the Northeast Nebraska area. Our rules do allow for us to all upgrade to a Bosch A pump w/ 10mm plungers, so I kinda figured I'd just go that way right off the bat, and avoid using a 450 Roosa for a few years, only to update to an A pump later on.

I was wanting to get some opinions/advice as to what size of injection pump & nozzle tips would work best for the tractor I'm building. Here's what engine its going on:
IH DT407, bored out to 466 cubes
3LM-466 charger
no specs on the cam or head, dunno what route I'm taking there yet (assume stock head for now).
3000 RPM's
It's intended for a 1206, hoping to be
