The thing that may be worse than being cancelled is to have an event, pay the purse as planned and have a sparse crowd and not as many sponsors as normal. Whenever things do get going again, there's a lot of people and businesses hurting financially who aren't going to have disposable income for things like county fairs and sporting events. I hope things start turning around soon, but

"These 2-week cancellations will quickly turn into 2-months as the number of cases continues to grow."
You're talking about a population that is dumb enough to get in fights over black Friday Christmas shopping and hoard silly items. Barring some dramatic events in these next two weeks, people don't have the patience for a lengthy disruption in their lives like this. They're n

I wonder how much of a factor believing they will be subject to lawsuits if they go on as normal was in arriving at their "no fans" decision? It may be a virus to be taken seriously, but the media is churning this up for all they're worth. Won't be very much longer before the ambulance chasing lawyers want to get their piece of the action.

Not a single diesel tractor class? That's a little strange. Maybe they're buying into the theory that the younger crowd doesn't know or like farm tractors so we won't have them?
Tracy Byrd's not exactly a high dollar act these days. If they aren't making money at $25 a head times maybe 4000 people, plus all the sponsors they have, plus beer sales, somethin

I think Henry does. He's right, the junk has to be picked up whether it's 1 day or 360 days ahead of. No easy way to do it either, just grab a bucket and start walking the track. The track has to opened up first because buried stuff always works its way to the surface. The mud could be the bigger issue, our derby promoter likes the track very wet.

It was a weeknight and schools have already started, put whatever classes you want in there last night and they aren't going to draw very many. I disagree that having a light pro or t he almighty LLSS class would change the results that much. I get what you are saying, everyone involved wants to draw a bigger crowd, I just don't think it's a simple thing to remedy.

I didn't say all extra axles in Illinois were wrong. I've got a 34' dump trailer that has to have a 3rd axle on it so it can haul 80K and be compliant with the bridge laws. That is why dump trucks have extra axles, because of the bridge law formula. Which of those "dump trucks, bull racks, grain trucks" are hauling more than 80K in Illinois because they have an extra axle? None

It's not as simple as just adding axles. I'm not up on how some other states do it, but in IL you can only get overweight permits for a non-divisible load, not just because you want to haul more of something.
I think you guys are trying to fix a problem that isn't really much of a problem.

A few years ago at Henry, IL I forget which class, but two tractors that were broke and just there for the hook points drew back to back hooks, and we had to sit there while both of them backed up and hooked to the sled to do nothing. I thought it was dumb then and I still do. What did that accomplish for the promoter, the sanctioning body, or for those pullers? Not a damn thing. Go home and get

A person who's never been on a fairboard doesn't realize just how few good carnivals there are around and how much a fair is dependent on them. The first thing that has to be done when scheduling a fair is calling the carnival and seeing if the date will work for them. And don't get on their bad side because the rest of the carnival owners will know about it almost immediately.
