Hi,
re: hitch height and fake weights
Why don't the associations just put the scale (or scales) as close to the starting line as possible and make you weigh in, get the hitch height checked, and go directly to the track and make your hook, and then have another platform at the end of the track to re-measure the hitch height after your run?
If they are serious about the rules, and enforc

Hi,
To "WHAT": I'm sure if you stop and think about it, you will come to realize that if the pan is 12" in the air, the angle of the chain flattens out and you lose down force on the hitch; same as if the pan was on the ground and you dropped your hitch by 12"...
To the overall discussion: If you look at all the posts, it's not really about slow vs fast; I think everyone would

Hi,
First, let me say that I fall into the "old school" camp.
But here are a few points to ponder...
Yes, some fans like the "speed pulling" that we have now, but look at the old videos from the national events in the 1980s. 300 foot track. 1 or 2 make it out the end. Sometimes no one gets out. Speeds weren't that fast. BUT, look in the stands... Huge crowds of peopl

Hi,
One thing about sleds that peeves me is that if they would go back to having a weight box that actually did most of the work (after all, it IS called weight transfer sled) then the pulling would be better.
I don't know how many times I've seen the box all the way up at the 250 foot mark but it hardly slows the tractor down, and then they slam the pan down and hope for the best..

Hi,
I don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but I was wondering something along those same lines.
I was poking around on TractorData.com and it got me thinking...
The Allis 190XT and the D-21 have been around a long time, and are two of my favorite tractors, but is there something newer that would make a good puller?
The classes I'm thinking of are the Altered Farm/Hot Farm/Pro Farm t

Hi,
Another good show at the Prison City Pulloff.
Good weather, good crowd, good pulling action.
Or maybe I should say "expensive" pulling action for a number of teams.
Blower belts, turbos, drivelines and parts on the track...
A couple of teams will be thrashing to get there stuff repaired.
Kudos to Justin Hull and his driving skills for knowing when to let off the throttle and get on th

Hi,
One thing the fans need to keep in mind is that the distance markers (200, 250, 300, etc.) are not official distances.
They may measure them out before the pull starts but things can change during the pull.
Let's say the starting line gets chewed up from the first couple of classes so they move the eliminator up 5 feet.
They still zero the sled at the new spot but now the distance

Hi,
I wouldn't jump right to "firing the coach" without considering other factors.
As far as Tomah is concerned, I think things like a long winter/late spring, getting the crops in (in between rain showers), maybe waiting on parts, and the fact that the weather forecast called for rain every day this week, all might have been valid reasons for some folks not to show up.

Hi,
Well, here goes...
To those comparing big time tractor pulling to things like NASCAR, just stop.
You're comparing apples to oranges.
How so?
Well, Rick Hendrick doesn't have to be at his car dealerships every day and then go to the shop afterwards.
Jeff Gordon doesn't work a 10 hour shift at the widget factory and then head to the shop after supper.

Hi,
I think people shouldn't be afraid of electronic fuel injection.
It's the way things are done now.
Question: If pulling had gotten big back in the days before turbos were factory installed, would pullers have banned them because it was a new, "tricky" technology?
The cars we drive have had EFI since the early '80s.
Heck, the snowmobiles we drive have had EFI available

re: "war mongering republican presidents"
Hi,
I agree!
American wars were all started by Republicans!
Like Wilson in WWI... no wait, he was a liberal Democrat.
Or FDR in WWII... no, he was a progressive Democrat.
Well, how about Korea then... nope, Truman was a Democrat.
Okay, okay, but what about Vietnam... that damn Nixon was a Republican!
Yes, but JFK was a Democrat and he is the one

Hi,
"Track Patrol" just pointed out what I was going to say.
The starting line for the sled is not the same as the staging beams at a drag strip where the "starting line" for the drag cars is in the same place every time.
The pulling sled is brought back to the starting 'area' and the sled /measuring system is then reset to zero.
Let's say the pan is set to drop at 275';

Hi,
We, too, are praying for you Matt.
I do have a question, though.
I know the overall elapsed time of the incident was not long, and the safety crew got there quickly, and adrenaline is pumping like crazy, but could the engine have been shut down quicker with a shot of extinguisher in the intake?
Or do you run the risk of doing internal damage that might cause a hole in the block or pan t

Hi,
What if... instead of banning V8's, they were to ban alcohol?
With today's technology, could a gasoline fueled engine run with a diesel?
With the high tech, high octane racing gas that is available, and computerized/electronic ignitions, water injection, etc., could a gas engine be made to run competitively?
Just wondering...

I'm an Orange fan, but you won't hear me whine.
It was an awesome points race!
Orange gets it five years in a row...
Red wins it back, by one point, and gets championship number 12...
Great competition, a real dog fight.
It doesn't get any better than that!
The only ones that might whine a bit are the Green fans... LOL!

Hi,
Why is it that some people insist that they have a perfectly legal truck/tractor but refuse to get checked?
Is it pride, or is it because they are actually illegal?
Remember, pride is one of the "seven deadly sins" so get over it and let them check your vehicle.
If it's because you're illegal, quit throwing a hissy-fit and be a man about it.

Spent the whole day there.
Lots of different classes, lots of tractors and trucks, lots of fun!
Everyone was upbeat and enthusiastic (pullers and fans).
Had a pretty good crowd for the night show and the pulling went on past midnight.
I'm already planning on going again next year.

Was it the "SLOWEST" pull ever? Absolutely not.

Hi,
Getting back to the spirit of the original post, I would very much prefer to see a sled that starts easy and stops the tractors with weight and not a pan drop.
Some of the postings lead me to believe that a sled has to either start easy and need a pan drop, or start and pull too hard to make a decent show.
To that I say, I don't believe it.
The physics are pretty simple: you have a

Hi,
I've been around pulling since the mid '70's, mostly as a spectator and photographer, and I would agree that I don't like they way sleds are set up now-a-days.
Last year I was at a local pull (state level organization) and for almost every class the sled dropped the back of the pan, lifted the rear wheels up and stopped almost all the tractors within 5-10 feet of each

It was great to see Mr. Hull climb back in the seat of the MM and make a good pass.
Someone said it has been eight or nine years since he handed over the driving duties, and he got a 3rd place for his efforts!
The mini-mods were wild with a couple of "on the edge" passes.
