john deere hot stock August 22, 2011 07:56AM
Ive always pulled stock, tired of lifting weights. Building a 7500 lb 3000 RPM john deere, class has a 410 cid limit, using a 404 motor havent heard much good on 4010-20 rear, found a 4230 rear is this a better option? will a dry clutch work, and will trans work with no hyd pump in front? is there some one i can call that has done this before?

The 4010 or 4020 rear will work great. I run 8500 Lt Pro with a 4010 rear. A dry clutch is a better way to go. If you take out the front hyd pump your transmission will still work, but you'll need to lube it still. The small hyd gear pump in the rear end can easily be modified to lube your gears.

are you using the stock gears? I have have been told that the top shaft will not take it. I will be using 18.4-38 tires

The stock gears will hold up. Only thing I would recommend doing right away is needle the rearend and external brakes. If you have the money for a 3 speed that would be the best.

why external brakes?
