JD 329/359 help September 04, 2011 12:51PM
I am looking for any help I can find on this topic. I have done alot of looking and have ran across several 329 I realize they don't have the 7 main block but can they easily be changed to a 359? I believe everything else is the same in these motors other than the piston size will the sleves fit the holes or does it have to be bored to fit? Also is there anything out there to bolt it to a 4010 rear endor will I have to get an adapter plate. Thanks for any help on this.

329D should be 7 main & only diff from 359 should be the sleeves. Don't think they'll drop in though, a trip to the machine shop will be required. The 329/359/414 use a plate on the back & there is one that will bolt up to 10 & 20 series bell housings. I think it's from the 2510 but not 100% sure on that.

The 2510d was a 202 cid 4 cyl.If you are running a cubic inch limit class,why not use a 404 block with a smaller bore,or a 4010 block?

Plate to use is from a 4030, 359 is a better block than 329, both are much lighter than any 400 series. We have proven this can work in our tractor, FireWater for 3 years now

I know your tractor it runs very well, I talked to Justin a while back and he gave me the name of a guy in aniline to call that guy didn't know what plate I was talking about, if you guys could point me in the right direction on this it would be greatly appreciated, if you'd rather call my number is 816-392-4451.

Believe that plate was also used in some of the JD combines. Call Cook tractor salvage, I know they have some 660-885-2287
