How big has anyone taken a 407? What's the best IH block 2 build a 640?

Mid 500s I've heard, but it gets thin in spots.

i bought one that was 600 inch.4.75 bore and 5.35 stroke iwould say 5.75 stroke is it.and the 4.75 bore was max also. i built mine at 540 and got along fine.remember hardblock is your friend

I know 540 can be done w/ a 4 5/8" bore and a 5.35" stroke. I've been in touch w/ a guy who's done it, sounds like there's a fair amount of machine work involved, the block needs the water jackets filled completly to the top of the block deck (I learned that one the hard way!Sad ). Perhaps Kevin will read this one & chime in.

A C4 block is the ideal block to have.

That's 4.5 in with standard stroke, 440 but we were turning 5200 rpm at 300 foot mark

Call Phil at Riverside, He made mine into a 600 in 2006. It is 4.75X5.625 and is wet sleeved. We ran 4 years before we had to replace the sleeves . It is still running.
