Data Logger September 20, 2011 04:27PM
I'm looking for a simple, easy to use data logger for a diesel tractor. I'm guessing.... 6 temps, 2 for boost, maybe 1 rpm? What works and doesn't work? Looking for opinions...... thanks.

Call Ross Castner, hands down the nicest datalogger I looked at and very easy to install/setup.

i use 2 rpm sensors,1 is for engine and the other i use to monitor driveshaft speed to see what clutch is doing

Hey Patches, I currently pull in a enhanced FarmStock Class and am contemplating a way of collecting accurate and helpful info. about how my tractor is running. How did you mount the sensor to read the driveshaft RPM to get a accurate clutch slippage reading? maybe a picture of the mounting option you chose may help me. Also, with your data acquisition system, is it complicated to unhook everything to work on the tractor? Curious of its simplicity to: 1. install, 2. be able to use to its full potential and understand the data 3. uninstall to work on the vehicle. Thanks, PK.

Whatever you choose, I'd recommend putting the engine RPM pickup on the flywheel ring gear teeth. We had ours on the injection pump gear initially and it varied wildly.

I also have a RPM system and it's great, never failed to record a run in 6 years of use. Also have yet to have any of the sensors fail. Good to work with. Call 405-495-0454 and ask for Randy.

Any helpfull hints on mounting the rpm performance unit? What did you do about getting the data logger itself and or the egt boxes mounted so that they dont get wet when washing the tractor.

I bought an inexpensive plastic tool box, lined it with foam put my components inside, mounted under roll cage. Works great, stays dry and dust free while protected from getting beat around.

RPM IS THE WAY TO GO. HELPFUL STAFF AND REASONABLE PRICE. PROBABLY AROUND $1,600 FOR 6 EGTS, 2 PRESSURES AND 1 RPM.
