JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 11:36AM
Ok got a JD 6030 round 640 cubes, cam, p-pump butterfly cut pistons. Just got it built and Took it to a pull about a month ago. My brother was driving the tractor. He tightened the chain, reved it up dropped the clutch and she puked. Probably was about 2000 RPM's when he dropped the clutch. The second attempt he came out of the hole about 2500 RPMS, she puked again. We gave up that night. We put it on a dyno a couple days later, when the dyno cranks down it at 60 HP it dies. Even if you let off of it at 60 HP it dies. Yes I said 60 HP. So we are stumped. Any ideas at all what it could be? Cause we sure don't. I mean it sounds like she's beast....only in sound. We think its probably out of a timing some where. It's fairly its hard to start as well, shes ether addicted. Again any ideas?

Whats your injection timing set at, high timing will have a lot to do with how it starts. And when it dies, do you lose all smoke? Does it seem like a fuel delivery issue?

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 12:06PM
For the injection timing I'm not exactly sure I would have ask my mechanic which is my brother. Als it smokes pretty heavily idling and what not and when it dies I believe it loses smoke pretty quickly from my best recollection

Pumps are tight...no broken cam.....Yet haha

If it is losing smoke i would look into that, either see if it goes away or changes color, like if it gets real white like the water is kicking on and drowning it, or if it goes away like its running out of fuel. What are you feeding your injection pump with?

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 12:32PM
no water injection on this tractor. I believe the smoke just goes away. It's an electric fuel pump.

Timing a good place to start. Was the pump tight on the block before you ever started it? Had a friend that was checking timing and forgot to tighten pump bolts up and broke the cam when they started it up.

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 01:13PM
Is the pump timing 180 out?

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 01:24PM
i think hs1066 is leading you in the right direction about the delivery, check pressure after your electric pump, if its not enough tractor will run and die as soon as you start to put a load on it. If you put a cheap chemical type sprayer pump, those will have a solenoid on them to shut off at a certain psi which may not be enough supply for your injection pump.

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 03:47PM
timing is to far advanced

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 01:25PM
Whats your fuel pressure? Should be around 50 to 70 psi. Are you running a stock fuel tank? The outlet on the stock tanks are way to small.

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 01:54PM
it cant be 180 out the tractor would sound like crap! the timing could be a little to fare adv. i have a 10 gal cell in the factory place and a fass system. the fass system is high in price but i had 2 cheap pumps that went out after a couple of months!

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 02:30PM
whats your cam timing ,did you degree your cam to your crank timing

Re: JD 6030 help September 27, 2011 03:21PM
Given enough fuel and enough ether to get started, they'll run with the pump 180 out, and act just like you have described.

Re: JD 6030 help September 28, 2011 10:29AM
Try pump timing around 36-38 degree. Make sure fuel pump gear are not sheared off.

Re: JD 6030 help September 28, 2011 12:11PM
If your running open RPM, 36-38 is maybe OK. If your running 3000 RPM, 28-30 is plenty. We tried that high timing and burnt a hole in no. 4 piston in 5 hooks.
