T04 vs 3LM-33
|
questionable
|
Replacing stock T04 turbo on JD4440. Replaced with a Schwitzer 3LM-33. We chose the 33 so we could remain with the small exhaust foot rather than changing manifolds etc. Questioning if t was a right choice. I was seeing around 27psi of boost with the T04 @ 3000RPM under load. Now with the Schwitzer 3LM-33 only seeing around 23-24psi of boost under load.
Understood that the 33 should have been a better choice. Why? Is this 3LM-33 by chance providing better CFM than the T04? |

Does anyone have any input on this? |

not really

How's the tractor seem to perform? smoke more or less? Lug better ? I know Deere used at least 3 different turbos on 4430's. Most were TO4's but some had 3LD's 3LDA's & some 3LM 249's which some people thought were better, but doubtful if there was much difference in any of them if they were using them on the assembly line. Not sure about the bigger 4440 engine. |

Can't you Dyno it?
|
Surely you have an implement dealer nearby. Switch them back and forth and dyno it. You would have the real answer instead of some keyboard pullers opinion. |

Tried one on 407 10 years ago, 3ld was far better, went to 3lm 466 could not beleave the difference..the 33 was my brothers I told him as far as I was consered he could pull that 3lm33 in the no turbo class...don't waste your time or you money...just my two cents...maybe three...... |

I don't use it for pulling but put a 3lm-33 on my 4840 and it dropped my egt's 200 degrees and it ran a whole lot better. I believe it is a lot better turbo than the t04. |

3lm-466 - Considered the option of this turbo but didn't feel like changing water housings and changing exhaust manifold to large foot.
EGT- That was half of my other problem i was encountering was high EGTs with the T04. So far i have only saw about 100 degree drop but have not worked it much yet. As to the dyno- yes that would be acceptable but we move the fuel setting around between weekend and farm. The T04 began to rub the intake housing so would not feel very comfortable reinstalling it. Thanks for the Input |
