Speeding up a Massey Rear-End November 29, 2011 04:40AM
I have a Massey Harris 55 and right now in 3rd gear we are running about 6.5 MPH (at 10% over factor RPMs and 15.5s).

Most of the rear-end is the same as a Massey Ferguson 1100 or 1130 including bull gears, ect.

Is there any way of speeding up this rear-end with different ring and pinion set ups, pumpkins, or anything? We are looking for about 15%-ish increase (2nd gear would be about 6 MPH and 3rd would be 7.5 MPH)

We would also be willing to machine new parts if it will work..

Thanks for the help!

Best bet is to leave rearend alone and make new tranny gears.. Do u have coarse or fine tooth bull gears?

Pretty sure they are coarse tooth.. and we talked about cutting new trans gears, but there isn't much room in there and we weren't sure how easy it would be in that old transmission housing.

When you say fine tooth are you refering to the tooth being narrower across the top and tooth face has more curve ?
We encountered one this year, first one of maybe seven different we have looked in over the years. Were they used in a particular time frame or specific model ?

Thanks

Yes and there is diff tooth count from coarse to spline, couldn't tie it to specific yr, thinkin it was related to production at diff plants?
