What class are you going to run? I was wondering the same thing. How much better does a 55 series head flow compared to a 40 series?

Curious as well but about price. How much we talking for a 55 series? Used or new

Go with the 55 series. There is such a big difference. Don't spend the money to try to make a 40 series work. 55 series aren't that bad in price for what you get.

Even if you have a 404, is the 55 series still better?

A stock 55 head flowes 210 to 215 cfm not sure what the 40 series flowes. Its well worth the money to go with the 55 head

I don't think a 55 series head will work on a 404. Due to the smaller bore, there is an interference problem between the valves and the top of the sleeve.

What is the best head to run with a 404 then?

notch your sleeves for valve clearance and put on a 55 seris head, you will spend $2000 on bigger valves and springs, port and polish work and not get as much out of it as a stock 55 series head. if your going to spend $2000 anyhow I would spend it on a 55 series head, then when you move up you will have something to work with.
