Putting a dt360 into a 560 using a flywheel off of a 1066 what would you suggest for starter options or will the stock starter work? |

Doesn't a 1066 use a 14" clutch? Ain't no way that's gonna work. Easy way is use a 966 or equivalent flywheel for a 12" clutch, and turn down the outside to fit the 560 ring gear. Then the stock starter will work. Don't know what the spacing will need to be to get back far enough to reach the starter, but the diameter will be right. |

I have a D358 in my 560 and I used a starter for a 3688 if I remember right (although many are the same, that is just what I used), but I am also running a 12" clutch and flywheel as toolz suggested. I am not sure the 14" flywheel will fit but maybe it will, with some work. A buddy of mine had a spacer made to move my flywheel back to line up with the starter, but I can't recall exactly how far it had to be moved back. I know I arrived at the measurement by measuring the ring gear location from the stock gas motor while the flywheel was still mounted on it and then worked backwards on the diesel motor. It's been that way for a few years. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/04/2012 02:22PM by FordPuller9000. |

Call Floyd Isbell, phone # should be in the builders link or just put his name in the search box and you should find it. If a 14" clutch will fit he can tell you, and tell you what you need to make it work. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the diameters of the starter ring gears on either a 12" flywheel for a 966/986, or a 14" flywheel for a 1066/1086, should be almost the same. I know they are both 132 tooth starter ring gears. |

That's probably right, since either will fit in a 66 clutch housing with the same starter (I think), but the 66 ring gear was quite a bit bigger than the 560 ring gear I used, so even if it would fit in the 560 clutch housing (don't think it will), I sure wouldn't think there would be a starter that would fit in the factory hole to fit the 66 ring gear.
I don't know if the rear of the DT360 is the same as a 466, but if it is, the flywheel needs to be spaced back 1 1/2", and the 560 ring gear needs to be moved forward on the flywheel 5/8", measured from the REAR of the 66 ring gear. That will put everything where it needs to be, if using a factory 66 series rear engine plate. When I got done, I didn't even have to adjust the clutch. I have a couple of the spacers made up if you need one. |

I am not using a 966 12" flywheel either, there is a bit of a difference in the od of the 560 flywheel for the 12" clutch and the 966 flywheel for the 12" clutch .
The 560 diesel ring gear dimensions are: Teeth 125 O.D. 15.720" I.D. 14.485" The dimension for a 966 ring gear are: Teeth 132 O.D. 16.680" I.D. 15.485" And both of those flywheels are for a 12" clutch. So just because the 966 could use a 12" or 14" clutch, doesn't mean the 560 can, the flywheel for the 12" clutch was just as big as the flywheel for a 14" clutch in the 966 but this isn't so in the 560. Although the 12" clutch disc and pressure plate from a 966 will fit in the 560 flywheel. Even if the flywheel fits, you are going to have trouble finding a starter to meet the ring gear properly, but I guess it's possible. Edited 1 time(s).
