deere 8000 series tractors February 14, 2012 05:31AM
Just wondering if anyone knew the differences between an 81, 82, and 8300 deere.
I was told 8400 had bigger axles, and always had 8.1 engine.
Is an 82 as tough as an 83, just less power? Thanks

as to your ? yes an 82 is as tough as an 83

in 95&96 the 81,82,83 had a 7.6 a 84 had a 8.1 in 97 all four used the 8.1

as far as bigger axles that would depend on how the tractor was ordered

if you have ?s on a specific tractor get me a serial number i can help with that

you can email me at my office email of brocke@greenlineequip.com

Thanks for the info. I found a really nice 8200, and I wasn't that concerned about 20 less hp,
As I am about traction. Wanted to be sure if I weighted it down it would be as strong as an 83.
So its similar to comparing a 4560 and a 47, 45 is just as strong? I've seen a stock 82 pull a 5 shank NH
Disk ripper real deep no problem

The later ones with the more yellow decal, had the better shift valves, and better shifting trans.. (I can't remember if it was 10,000 or 20,000 SN# that it was changed.) I believe the 83-8400 had a 2in longer pump drive housing, and I think that changed the wheel base... (been a few yrs since those tractors came out..) If you found a good one.. I wouldn't pass it up to look for an 8300... Unless you were looking for a 10 series, or newer..

Thanks, according to tractor data 83 and 84 have 8 tenths of an inch longer wheelbase.
Really nice 8200 one owner lower hour tractor. Big firestones and greenstar
Ready. Should do the job really good, if not, chip it?
