I don't think Deere ever built any planetaries that weren't factory needled. |

They are needled on the pin but have washers on the sides. Upgrading to needles on the side is a good idea - they have a tendacy to take out the washer & wear into the housing. Also free's up some HP thru reduced drag. |

Why do the planet gears have any side load to require needle bearings? |

I wondered the same thing years ago... Then i split one of the washers on the side of the planetary and ran it though the sun gear and broke the housing. I decided it did not matter why and put needles in. It made a world of difference, well worth it. Darrin |
