LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 07, 2012 01:21PM
As if farmers don't have enough to worry about, now we got some local farmers that have had the weights stole off
thier farm tractors so people can sell them for scrap !! Incredible.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 01:41AM
Me & Dad was checking the fence beteewn us & our neighbor up a holler ,when we got to noticing ALL the steel Tee posts were gone & when we got to the Water gap where Dad had fastened up a cattle panel it was also missing . You could see where they had pushed a wheel barrow with the posts & drug the cattle panel off . Dad called the sheriff & was informed there was nothing they could do since he didn't see them actually take his stuff . Dad said you can follow the __ __ tire tracks & where they drug the panel to there house . They said still nothing they could .. What is it coming to ??
Gona have to take things into our own hands like in the old days ,,

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 02:24AM
just watched 100# ih weights sell at an auction for 125.00 a piece thought that was a little on the high side

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 02:32AM
That's the same load of crap law enforcement gives everybody around here too. Too my way of thinking, a crime has been comitted
now get off your a-- & do your job. Investigate it! And the manpower argument is so old too. I don't expect to see one Sheriff car or
township car sitting anywhere with a radar gun until all the crime in that jurisdiction is solved. If they see some drunk swerving all over
the road, fine, cuff him & stuff him, but we don't pay them to sit behind buildings waiting to tag someone for going 10 miles over in some
spot that shouldn't even be a reduced limit to start with. But rest assured SK, if you protected your property yourself, they'd be there to
haul you in. In my opinion their performance is pitiful. A friend of mine had weights stolen from a pile in front of the shop. Didn't even bother
reporting it. A waste of time.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 03:40AM
sounds like you guys must live in nw mo

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 04:55AM
same thing is happing around here too. scrap buyers are a dime a dozen, I would not be afaiad to say that half of there bussiness is stolen property. Some have even went so far as to cut down walnut trees for the logs!

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 06:07AM
Me and a farming neighbor had our batterys stolen out of our combines and trucks last fall a total of 11 battery and all the copper out of a irragation pivot. We call the sheriff dept and reported it but it was a complete joke. They (the sheriff dept) have last tract of their real job and that is to investigate crime, not running speed traps which is the hwy patrols job i do believe. I live in the county of BOONE in Mo.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 08:42AM
Im in Temple Hill , KY just outside of Glasgow , 1 of the dept. sheriff's lives in our lil spot in the road ..

pitiful is what i say ..

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 10:31AM
I had two track prep tractors stripped of their front weights during a pull.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 10:51AM
Same here in Nebraska more worried about DUI's to worry about real problems like theft and drug trafficing

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 12:09PM
Just drive though edgerton wisc at any time of the day or night and you WILL find a cop waiting to bust youy for speeding, but they almost laugh in your face when you call about a car break in or robbery. damn shame.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 12:15PM
Most could'nt catch a cold much less a thief around here!

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 08, 2012 03:12PM
You know I hadn't thought about it quiet the way that IH#1 has put it but that comment pretty much puts it like it is.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 09, 2012 12:19AM
Is not part of the problem the scrap yards themselves? I know our scrap yard here in NY looks all the loads over to make sure your actually weighing in short steel. I know i would think it to be a little suspect if a person, ie. "scrapper" as we have been calling them.Came rolling in with a pickup full of freshly painted waits off the front of a scraper tractor! The honest thing to do would be ? them about it no? Or at least set them aside in case the farmer wanted to buy them back. I just paid $80 dollars a piece for the ton of weights i just bought.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 09, 2012 03:57AM
In SW Iowa they just found a bunch of weights at a scrap yard and the sherriff hauled 2 pickup loads out, when they went back for the third the yard said no they wanted to be paid for them since they had to pay to get them. (the sherriff was going to get a court order to take them) The nerve of the scrapper though, to feel these weights were his!!

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 09, 2012 04:34AM
In Michigan, I think it is a law now that a "scrapper" has to have a valid ID to sell anything. I have a big yard just a couple of miles away and they have been doing the id thing for a couple of years. They work very close with the state police in our area. But here in Branch County, you can kill your wife and get away with it (one of the cases was highlighted on one of the reality shows last fall) as well as a guy from a bar fight. he killers are scot free. Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 09, 2012 05:25AM
Around the year 2000 we ran at Anoka MN then drove to Menomonie WI to run again that same day (not much for spare time). We went across the Menomonie scale and left 2 weights lay there. After we were done making our pass we went back to get them and they were gone. I just figured someone took them back for us or accidently grabbed them (thinking they were there own) so I ran around the pits letting people know we were missing them. Its not like these look like everyone else's as they are the same maroon color as our tractor. Never did get them back, WTF! this still makes me mad...

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 09, 2012 09:21AM
When someone leaves wts. at our scales we usually throw them on the scale and take them to the next event. One year Scott Phillips [Yankee Blue 4wd out of Mi.] left several small wts at the scale and by the time we saw him again, the wts. had been to 5 states. We seldom leave wts at a event as this is a sure way for them to come up missing forever. When we do events for Full Pull out east, we usually leave them with a FPP official there.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 09, 2012 03:37PM
It does not matter where you live in this country the facts are all the same with law enforcement. Speeding, Dui, ect. the departments profit from conviction. Investigation of stolen property and drug labs cost the counties to much to get a conviction. So that's not in there best interest to pursue. So we all pay for a problem we are all quilty of from the President all the way down to our local governments. This country is out of control and our freedom is going fast.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 09, 2012 11:26PM
Seat Belts are the big tickets around here, 175.00

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 10, 2012 04:17PM
I'll relate a sad tale of law enforcement here in N.E. Ohio that has nothing to do with pulling or scrap yards, but very related to law enforcements lack
of interest in crime. A couple of months ago my step-son's science teacher was gunned down in the dark as she was getting into her car to go to
work. It was done by a stalker, who was under court order to stay away from her. During the time he was under this so called order, he vandalized
her car in broad daylight at the school, threatened to kill her dog & did so, he printed up buisiness cards offering her for sexual activity & sent them
to students & co-workers, & printed up similar fliers & put them on student & staff's vehicles at the school. My step-son said it was common knowledge at school she was terrified of this nut & got the same response from the police time after time. " Unless you actually see him doing it"
They had no manpower to investigate this, yet you can not even think of driving through this town with a burned out headlight or loud muffler. Yet
within 4 hours of this woman being basicly assinated, the police knew where the guy had the buisiness cards & fliers printed up , had all threatening
emails he'd sent , everything in 4 hours. Yet if they'd have done any of this earlier. Distributing pornographic material to minors, on school property
no less , would have been enough of a conviction in itself to have put this sicko away for years & saved her life. And to top it off the chief of police
didn't even have enough respect to take his sun glasses off the top of his head as he nonchalantly gave his interview on the 11 o'clock news. And
as for scrap yards. If someone was trying to sell you sections of railroad track. Wouldn't it enter your mind, that maybe this clown don't really own
railroad track ? That's a popular "scrap" item around here. As for police levies. They can always count on my no vote.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 11, 2012 01:23AM
They were actually stealing manhole covers from city streets around here a couple years ago. There was also an instance where the county highway department came up missing the pieces of an entire prefab bridge while it awaited assembly at the jobsite. Possibly the same nice folks that turned the neighbor's aluminum stock trailer into a flatbed using only a sawzall. Our farm shop has been broken into numerous times, and it's the same story as elsewhere. Police come and make out yet another report, then run off as quickly as possible to get back to their speedtrap.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 11, 2012 02:02AM
I've started using game cameras in some of our areas to try to get a picture of these thiefs. you be surpised at the activtly you will get to see and they are a lot less costly (maybe not quiet as good) than a full fledged security camera but you have to secure them good or they will just steal them also. At least you have a shot at a picture. I have booby traped my shop from time to time and let it be known publicly that it is, don't know if it helps or not but so far no problems.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 11, 2012 01:44PM
Witch game cam works best. Think this would work well for us, night vision? range, clearity.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 11, 2012 02:13AM
Here's one almost as bad, luckily no one died, but it's still irritating. Some low-lifes, known thieves by everyone, stole a tractor while the family was away. Just to note, this was on a back road, a good 6-7 miles from the main highway where the only traffic is when the shift changes at the mine. So through police asking around as well as the owners making phone calls, the route the crooks took was pieced together. They went past the coal mine, which has several security cameras. There was video evidence of them driving past the mine on the tractor and the pickup they had following. But all the cops gave was this big load of B.S. about they couldn't do anything because the one driving the tractor was a minor. Everyone knows who did it, and several of them have been in and out of the pokey for years. It doesn't look like the taxpayers are getting much service for their money. But don't go driving around with a burnt out license plate light, they'll do a U-turn and track you down to write a ticket. It's sad that the hard-working average guy has to put up with this garbage on top of everything else. You might be better off handling things yourself.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 11, 2012 03:54PM
Click click boom. That the sound that would best handle them siturations.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 12, 2012 01:36AM
That solution would, no doubt, take care of the problem and don't think I haven't been tempted. However, as enticing as that idea may be, all that would do here in The Republic of Chicago is be sure to get the wrong person the wrong kind of attention from the police. They would much rather lock up a law abiding citizen acting to protect himself, his family, and property than any sort of real criminal.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 13, 2012 03:57AM
load your guns, keep em close, shoot to kill then bury in the cornfield no one will ever find them there!!!

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 13, 2012 08:19AM
manure pile works much better Smiling

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 14, 2012 06:54PM
Hog lot, then roller mill for the bones. Maybe I have put tom much thought in to this. Hell they come in and steal gas while people are home 100 feet from the front door

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 14, 2012 11:00PM
Hold on I'm bringing everything back! I get the message, "Don't mess with Farmers"

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 15, 2012 04:27AM
It's to bad that law enforcement won't do their job that they are being paid to do and the public has to take the problem into their own hands so the only thing I can say is the 3 s's and that is shoot, shovel, & shutup!!!

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 15, 2012 04:35AM
It is only going to get worst. Right now they are steeling for drug money but once the free food from goverment stops they will become more despreate and steal and injury from everyone. All the more reason to conceal carry to project your family and property. Good luck

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 15, 2012 08:07AM
The problem with conceal carry is you can only legally use it to protect yourself if you feel threatened personnally not to protect property. I have a ccw and that is what the law is in Mo. but then I guess you can always feel threatened. I'm not sure that carrying a ccw is to your advantage where if you don't have a ccw then you can act the way you want. With a ccw the law puts you on a higher standard but I feel the ccw is to my advantage, I wish more people would get one since it is proven that there is less crime with the ccw law.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 15, 2012 08:16AM
Use a incinerator it is the perfect answer, nothing left,no DNA,problem solved

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 15, 2012 08:31AM
I agree about CCW. It is my opinion that if more people carried the crooks would think twice before confronting the owner. We had a neibhor pistol whipped in his house last summer by a crook that thought no one was hope. Have a great summer.

Re: LOCK UP YER WEIGHTS!!! April 15, 2012 08:48AM
I don`t carry myself ,not yet anyway, but, I have NO problem with someone the does, It is the the ones that carry without a permit (criminals) that scare me!!!
PS, Anybody but obama 2012 please!!!!

actually India is where most of it is going. their demand is decreasing and they're predicting scrap will go down some this year because of it.
