Unfortunatly no, how long is it til u lose steering and brakes-should be at leased 60 seconds if not you have a simple valve problem, |

You can also install a large tank over top your front pump in your oil supply line so that your front pump doesn't run out of oil when the clutch is pushed down. You do apparently have a high pressure leak somewhere though as you should not be using any hydraulics unless you are steering or brakeing. If you have a hitch or remote valves the leak is most likely in them. |

Some tractors have as big as a 2 gallon reservoir up front. It needs to be able to withstand trans pump pressure and air should not be a problem. A 4840 has a big reservoir you might could use if you can fit it up front someplace. |

If your hyd. come right back after you shut down and start back up it sounds like the sump screen is plugged, check it if you have'nt. |

you can check for a high pressure leak to sump by starting the tractor when everything is dead cold, let it run without using any hydraulic functions for 15 minutes or so, check for 'hot spots' by feeling lines, brakes, steering, rockshaft, SCVs. if you suspect a function, cap it off and try again when everything cools down. repair accordingly. |

What class are you running? Does your class allow you to remove the hydraulics etc.? You could use an electric pump set up or go to manual brakes and steering if allowed? |

the small hyd pump you have in front, is it an open center gear pump? the JD steering and brakes are closed center. |

I own 2 4320 2 4020 1 3020 and do all work to them myself. Not swell headed just have seen lots of differant problems with them. Here is my 2 cents. Take the lines off the pressure control valve and take the fitting out of the front this allows you to remove a valve, spring, shims, and etc. I would check the spring free lenght in the book, it is probably to short. I would just replace it with new (R40072). Then look at valve and housing if valve is scored you can take fine sand paper and lap and do the same with housing bore if needed. I would add extra shims (24H1283) to add more pressure to spring, not two many just a couple at a time. Doing this should help keep the valve from sticking, whitch it sounds like it is and the shims should help keep your steering and brakes pressured up longer. And read the section of your service manual that gives a discription of the operation of the pressure controll valve, this should give you a better understanding of why and what you are doing. Happy wrenching! |

It is quite easy to get the trans pump suction tube gasket installed wrong. This blocks the inlet at the trans pump by about 50% and causes loss of hydraulics quickly when the clutch is disengaged. If you are running an open center gear type hyd pump, this pump flows oil all the time it is running. If this is the type hyd pump you have, the trans pump would need to run all the time which it can not when the clutch is disengaged. Go with an electric which will run all the time. |
