Does anyone know what size the wristpins are on the IH 407? Also does anyone know of a any tractor or truck engines that have a rod that is about 9" long? I need some for a Hercules engine.

IH 407's has two different wrist pin sizes, 1.5" and 1.625" diameter wrist pins. The 1.5" ones are easy to find, they're also the same as a D or DT361 engine. The 1.625" pin 407 rods are a lil harder to find, they were only in 1456's, early 915 High Profile combines, and UDT407 power units. Not sure what IH construction equipment that was 407 powered would have had the big pin rods.

dv573 has 9.0 in rod 1.50 pin. some late rods have the 1.625 pin. only thing is the rod is a little thin. there is a cat, case and jd rod that we have also investigated that range from 9-10.2" long. good luck with your projects

Thanks guys very much for the info on the rods. I want to install Caterpillar 3306 pistons in my Hercules. These have 1.500 wristpins.

I am not familiar with a dv573. Who makes it and where would I find one?

its an IH pay loader engine. I think they are about .060 thinner (roughly) on a side than a 466 IH rod

Another rod to try would be an IH DT429 these came in TD20 dozers. They are 9 inches center to center, 1.625 wristpin. Don't know the width. 3 inch journal. Something else would be the 540 and 640 perkins rod. They are 9 inch, 3 inch journal the wristpin is 1.750 the width I think is a little narrow. I have one in the shop I can measure. twv
