Anybody ever put a 4240 head on a 4430 404ci motor? will it fit and perform?

i am pretty sure the late 4430 had the 40 series head

The 4240 head/late 4430 head should be the same (maybe even a 4040 and 4440) as long as they all have the KDEL injectors. Do you have a casting number? I looked on deere parts and there are 3 or 4 with casting numbers that interchange, the one that came to mind for me was the R58044.

as far as I know I have been told a 466 head will not fit on a 404 engine because the valves in the 466 head atr too big and will hit the sleeves...prove me wrong? just what I have been told

55 series heads and 8.1 heads will not fit on 404 with out modification. Valves to big. But any 30 or 40 series 466 heads will. there is really no difference except for the intake ports differ a little.
