What engines can be swapped into a 3020? wondering what newer higher hp or just newer better engines will bolt in with only minor modifications such as brackets and stuff.

definitly go with a powertech 4.5L. some even have an inline pump on

That sounds like a plan. There are lots of old gas 3020s cheap and looking to put one together. will the 4.5 bolt in a 2510 and 2520 also?

I thought the 4.5 would bolt into the 2510/2520, but not the 3020 due to the difference in bellhousing, framerail bolts from the Waterloo to Dubuque engines. How do you make a 4.5 bolt into a 3010/3020?

Get the back engine plate from a 9400 combine or 4050 with a 359 in it, or a plate from a 4030. but you will have to modify everything in front of it, frame rails and hyd pump mount.
