Pump Timing (this topic never gets old) July 12, 2012 02:38PM
Farm Stock IH with 466 motor, 3LM, 13mm rotary, 2800 rpm high idle. I've ran it for years at 30 deg timing advance, and then learned recently that the intravance (intervance?) on the pump (which I bought used) is locked out, so I bumped it up to 38 deg advance. Before I did this, I took it out on the road and pulled it down with the brakes, and could get 55 lbs boost. After the timing adjustment I took it out again and it seemed to run a little better (I think), but I was only able to build a little over 40 lb boost. It seemed like it might have stayed lit a little better, but it was hard to remember the difference. The second time it lugged down to around 2000 rpm, and I forgot to look the first time.

My question is, since it built less boost after the timing advance was increased, does that mean that it produced less torque, or does it mean that it handled the load better and just didn't lug down as far? Did I make an improvement or a step backwards? Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing

you will gain at the top end but loose at the low end

Will bumping the timing up to 36 or 38 lower the flame and make it run cooler egt wise at the end of the track

What are you guys running for timing on your mod 100 with the intravance locked. We run about 32 and it has a lot of torque. Was wondering if we could bump it to 36 to help clean up some of the smoke and burn it better.

if you go to 38 be carefull i have the same set up and burnt 4 pistons at 40 we run it at 35 now havent had any problems

Anyone have any opinions on this. Id like to know too

I run mine 34, 3000 rpm, same setup.

we're running a real good mod100 3000rpms and hx55 with water. were running 32-33 degrees ,18 oz water and are pushing a 12" flame out of the exaust pipe which is 20" tall out of the hood running 1500-1600 on the pyro. low end torque is awesome. should we bump up timing or water to bring the flame back down? I was thinking about going to 35 degrees and see what it does.

Better try it, you shouldn't have that much fire.

Are you running water. If so how much

Re: Pump Timing (this topic never gets old) December 10, 2012 01:48AM
No not running water, though everyone else in class is, don't think I needed it, just my opinion. I've got a good pump also and have no fire. Wonder if maybe your marks are off. My tractor runs top of class so I know my timing marks are on. Make sure your pump timing marks are lined up, if they are off even a little it makes a big difference, double check.

Do you have to run more timing with more rpms? Say 4 k vs 3k

Re: Pump Timing (this topic never gets old) December 09, 2012 11:30PM
How do you know if you have an intravance or not? we ran our tractor with at 18* and it seemed to run fine, you think the added timing will help?

Re: Pump Timing (this topic never gets old) December 10, 2012 01:40AM
If you ran it at 18 and it ran fine i think the intravance is still working. The advance in the pump adds 14 degrees so youd be running 32 full timing. If the advanced is locked then you have to run all your timing on the flywheel.

Bad medicine, you mind if i give you a ring? Im good on the number

Sure anytime

RAN THAT SAME SETUP FOR AT LEAST 6 YRS. 22 DEGREES WORKED VERY WELL

You'll just have to try different setting's. Every tractor is always a littledifferent.

Better know a little more about the pump & injector setup to give an honest answer

Re: Pump Timing (this topic never gets old) December 11, 2012 10:59AM
Does the locked intervance increase it 14 degrees on every pump as a general rule of thumb, or just on the mod 100s?

I have a built 4 roller roosa on a 1256 that i cant seem to get timed up right. Its running really hot on me at the end of the track. I know we've got a pretty good flame but i cant tell you how tall it is because I've got a sleeve in my pipe so the chrome doesnt turn purple and its shorter than my outter pipe.

Thanks!!
