i had a guy tell me the other day at a pull that he could turn his 5.9 cummins in his hot farm tractor 8000rpm. is this true could a well put together 5.9 hold together at 8000 or is this guy just full of it, the guys tractor didnt hold together either he made it to about 75ft before it blew but it sounded like he had it wound to about that high, i just didnt see any way that could work running that high of rpm in a hot farm witch i dout its put together well enough to handle that, just wondering if its possable. |

Hmmm
|
If I remember correctly I think guys can turn about 6500 out of a 5.9. 8000 sounds a little out of the question if you ask me but I deffinatly don't know everything. Just my 2 cents. |

65 with billet rods and piston, lightened ncrank and balanced. The best fasteners money can buy aa dry sump oiling. |

I doubt it
|
You would have to run about a million degrees of timing advance on the injection pump to get a compression fired engine to run there. 8000 is a long way from 6500. |

Maybe he had 2 magnets on his flywheel to trigger the tach instead of one???? 8000 rpm sounds like a "Fish story"" to me. |

Don't most hot farm classes have a 3000 rpm limit? MACK |

metric

he had his tach on metric lol Europe is the only place ive ever seen diesel tractors anything close and i mean maybe 7000 rpm but they service them like a top fuel, one run and a complete tear down , pumps turbos, engine , rebuild and do it again. fun? |

rrrrrr's
|
It does turn some rpm for a 5.9, however the only times it has gone over 7k has been with a stuck plunger a few times.
Why someone would suggest a lighter crank for higher rpm operation I'm a little unsure? These aren't drag racing engines... |

The guy that built the engine in the 756 told me in the gas station one night that it made 1700 horse, 138 pounds of boost, and they were spinning a 5" charger and turned 8000 rpm with a stock bottom end. I told him I didnt just fall of the turnip truck and walked out. |

1700hp is pretty poor from a 5" charger. |
